Pictou County residents and visitors will be able to drive away hunger pains by stopping by Alladin, a new Syrian Canadian takeout restaurant that opens in Pictou today.

The restaurant is being opened by Lema Alladin, right, along with her family, Abdulkadir Casim, second from right, Yasser-Albarri and Shadi Alhaeddin, left. Alladin has been selling food she made at the New Glasgow Farmers Market for the past year so she decided to branch into the takeout business. The menu includes such items as baklava, harris, shish kabob sandwich and falafel plate as well as hamburgers and hot dogs. The restaurant is located on Commercial Street, behind the curling club and outdoor seating is available. It will open at noon, seven days a week.
