ALMA It was a story from New Glasgow's “The News” that led to November's concert in the “Monday Music in Alma” series.

Back in August, Gwen MacLean, the organizer of the concert series, said she read with great interest the feature story about the CD released by local musicians Cheryl Lays and Vicki MacLeod.

Back in August, Gwen MacLean, the organizer of the concert series, said she read with great interest the feature story about the CD released by local musicians Cheryl Lays and Vicki MacLeod.

Almost 30 years ago, MacLean was directing a one act play and thought it would benefit from the addition of some music. As the play was based on the historical struggles of some early feminists to achieve independence, it was a given that the musicians be women.

The perfect solution was the two sisters who were making appearances on local stages to support a number of local fundraisers – Lays and MacLean.

She was happy they agreed back then and thankful they agreed again when she invited them to play for Monday Music.

This time, the show is all theirs.  This will be the first time they have had the stage to themselves for a whole concert.  They will be featuring many of the songs from their CD, “Two Sisters, One Heart” as well as a number of other songs with a folk and gospel flavour. The audience can expect a joke or two along the way.

The regular audience members at the Alma concerts are expected to be joined by friends who have been listening to Lays and MacLean for years, as well as some new fans who are keen to see and hear what this local dynamic duo will bring to the stage.

The concert will be held on Monday at Green Hill – Alma United Church beginning at 7:30 p.m.  Admission is “Pay What You Can” but organizers hope that most will want to contribute at least $10.
