Santa Claus will be coming to town Saturday, Dec. 9 in New Glasgow.
The New Glasgow Firefighters Christmas Parade committee is well into planning the 2017 parade.
“We are excited to see everything coming together so nicely this year, we worked hard over the last few years learning the ropes of a night time parade and getting the kinks out and I think we are finally there” says co-chair Trevor MacDonald.
The parade starts at 5:45 p.m. and will leave the site of the former John Brother MacDonald Stadium and follow East River Road to Archimedes, and on to Provost Street.
“We have lots of interest this year, entries are coming in already and people are excited,” said Paula Munroe-Fraser who handles the entries for the committee. Those interested in signing up are asked to drop into New Glasgow Town Hall, Fire Hall or send an email to Janine.email@example.com for an electronic copy.
Art MacLean, co-chair for the last two years, is heading up sponsorship this year and is asking for any help for the parade.
“The sponsorship is used for bands, logistical help from the youth troop, trophies, and we also started to give back to the community as well. Last year the school who won The CIBC Best School Spirit award was given a $200 prize. CIBC was the sponsor of that award, and half of their sponsorship was given to the school.”
Again this year the parade will be followed by the light-up of the town Christmas tree.
“We are excited to have our biggest tree ever this year and cannot wait to see the smiling faces of all the children present as we count down for the lights to go on. We will also once again feature great local talent on the Glasgow Square outside stage to entertain us until the lighting of our tree,” said Paula Irving, acting Glasgow Square manager.
