The Thistle Quilt Guild is showcasing its big blanket in Westville on May 26 for its annual fundraiser drive.
Organizers are aiming to raise more than $1,000 through ticket sales and the like, for which people can admire the new quilt, a multi-coloured checkerboard of square and triangle patterns measuring about seven feet across.
“It’s all done by the women. This year, we did blocks by different ladies and then one lady sewed it all together and we quilted as a group. It’s all hand-quilted here,” said guild member Gloria Turnbull.
When The News visited the quilters at Westville’s recreation centre on Foxbrook Road, the sewing machines were out in force as quilters sewed together their various creations.
The main quilt is called the ‘Flying Four Patch’ and it took the Guild ladies roughly four months to complete, patch by patch.
The quilt will be displayed by the guild on May 26 at Westville’s Civic Hall from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tickets cost $1.
