STELLARTON – An investigation is ongoing into a structure fire that damaged a building at 339 South Foord St. in Stellarton.

Members of the Stellarton, Plymouth and Westville Fire Departments handled the blaze at the building near the train tracks over the course of a few hours on Monday afternoon, and according to Fire Chief Dwight Campbell, the fire was extinguished within a couple of hours.

Campbell said that fire crews and police were at the scene from about 4:30 to 8 p.m. Members of the Eureka Fire Department were put on standby at that time.

During that time, police closed off a portion of South Foord Street close to the property. North and southbound traffic in the area was rerouted along Claremont and Weir Avenue.

Campbell was not able to offer much comment on fire because it is still under investigation, but noted the fire was difficult for fire crews to access, since it mostly affected the interior of the building.

In 2017, Scotia Plumbing purchased the building that was once operated as Home Hardware. A representative from Scotia Plumbing declined to comment on the matter.
