A 31-year-old Colchester County man has been charged following an alleged incident involving a gun in Pictou Monday morning.

James Falt is charged with pointing a firearm, assault by threatening to use a weapon, confinement, assault, mischief, possession of a firearm while prohibited and two breaches of court orders in relation to an alleged incident in Sobeys in Pictou around 10 a.m. Monday.

RCMP say Falt allegedly assaulted a 23-year-old woman on Veterans Drive with a loaded handgun, left the scene and was spotted by police as he entered Sobeys. Police say they found a loaded handgun in one of the store’s garbage bins.

RCMP assured the public that this was an isolated incident.

Falt made a brief provincial court appearance Monday in Pictou and will return Thursday for show cause hearing.
