Police officers were honoured for their longtime service today.

Dedicated police officers who make Nova Scotia's streets safer and communities stronger were recognized today.

Justice deputy minister Judith Ferguson presented 235 active and retired police officers from mainland Nova Scotia with Nova Scotia Police Long Service Awards in the sixth year of the program.

"The face of criminal activity has changed since many of these men and women entered the workforce," said Ferguson. "There is crime at many different levels, and it's no longer contained within our communities.
