The plans are settling for the inaugural Pictou County Pizza Competition on Saturday, April 26 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Glasgow Square.

There are nine competitors from Pictou County and there will be five local ‘celebrity’ judges who will use an impartial tasting process to choose the winner.

People attending will also have the opportunity to vote for the ‘People’s Choice’ winner.

Doug Logan, member of the Rotary Club of New Glasgow, said it is the first competition, and hopes they can have more events like this.

“We’re hoping if it’s successful, it will be the first of many.”

People attending will have the opportunity to taste and compare each pizza while enjoying two beers provided by Pictou County’s own Uncle Leo Brewery in Lyon’s Brook. In addition, a cash bar will be available.

The event will be co-emceed by Ann McGregor and John Leblanc from East Coast FM.

The program will also involve door prizes, a 50/50 draw, tickets for alternate prizes, and Pictou County Pizza Trivia.

“It should be a really fun event. Lots of music, lots of laughs,” Logan said.

The event is a fundraiser, put on by the Rotary Club of New Glasgow to support local organizations such as the North Nova Education Center Interact Club, the St. Francis Xavier University Rotaract Club, Rotary Goodman Park, and the Admiral Murray Sea Cadets.

Logan said 100 per cent of the profits fund raised go back to various projects in these and other community organizations.

He said the event will be very interesting.

“It’s unlike anything we’ve ever done before.”

People like to come from places such as Halifax just to be involved in the uniqueness of it all.

Tickets are on sale for $25 each and are available at Westside Scotiabank in New Glasgow.
