PICTOU – A school naming committee has recommended keeping the name of a well-known doctor in the title.

Coun. Chester Dewar thanked everyone who sent letters and campaigned for Dr. W.A. MacLeod to keep its name when it officially becomes a primary to Grade 8 school.

He said a school naming committee has recommended the name Dr. W.A. MacLeod Consolidated School be considered a viable name change.

The new name will now go to the Chignecto Central Regional School Board for approval, he said.

Dr. W.A. MacLeod is set to start renovations in the near future that will change it from an elementary school to a P-8 school to accommodate students from Highland Middle School in Westville.

The school board decided to renovate MacLeod school rather than return the students to Westville which was closed more than a year ago because of odour problems.
