STELLARTON – Miss Teen Northern Nova Scotia and Pictou County Yoga are teaming up to raise money for Free the Children, a charity enabling youth in helping others.

Makayla Morrell, a 14-year-old from New Glasgow, who became Miss Teen Northern NS in March, is fundraising for the group founded by We Day’s Craig and Marc Kielburger as part of the Miss Teen Canada pageant.

Although all delegates are required to raise $400, Morrell is happy to do it, and hopes to raise more.

She went to the We Day activities in Halifax this year as part of an organization through New Glasgow Junior High called Teens For Change.

“I learned a lot there. It was an amazing experience,” she said.

Holding a yoga class as a fundraiser was the perfect mix for her, combining her love of helping others and yoga.

The class on Friday is free, but is accepting donations.

It begins at 6 p.m., and will be on the rooftop at Pictou County Yoga, on Lawrence Blvd., weather permitting.
