NSCC convocation today; award winners announced

Published on June 20, 2014

STELLARTON – Nova Scotia Community College’s (NSCC) Pictou Campus will celebrate its class of 2014 during a convocation ceremony today beginning at 11 a.m.

The ceremony will celebrate the achievements of the 280 Pictou Campus graduates who have earned diplomas or certificates in the last academic year. The ceremony is also an opportunity to celebrate the support graduates have received during their academic journey and recognize the commitment of faculty and staff to provide post-secondary excellence across the province.

This year’s Pictou Campus valedictorian is Practical Nursing graduate, Brandy Fraser-Henley. The opportunity to study at a campus close to home was an important factor for Brandy. The skills and knowledge she has gained from her time at NSCC, however, have provided her with a level of confidence which will allow her to move forward in her chosen field. Brandy wants to use her education to provide for her family while working in a career that gives her opportunities to continue to learn and is one that she loves.

“These past two years have been life-changing,” she says. “I made new lifelong friends and the faculty members were encouraging and supportive in helping me achieve my goals.”

Also speaking at Pictou Campus – Convocation 2014 are Don Bureaux, NSCC President and Dave Freckelton, Pictou Campus Principal
