Battle of Culloden remembered
KNOYDART, N.S. – From the moment you pass the sign marking the community of Knoydart, the haunting sounds of a lone bagpipe can be heatrd flowing through the slight breeze.
It’s one of Sherry MacDonald’s favourite times of year. Online the lifelong Trenton resident is seeing friends talk about coming home and excitement is building in town for the annual Trenton Fun Fest.
“It’s been around for 26 years,” she said. “It’s been a part of everybody’s life. Now they’re bringing their kids home and saying, ‘This is the Trenton Fun Fest.’”
The festival will run four days and include a large variety of events. It starts on Thursday, July 10, with a mayor’s tea and that night there will be movies shown “under the stars” in Trenton Park. For teens there will be a haunted trail.
Friday there will be the Mayor’s golf tournament and the town’s annual ball tournament will get underway. There will also be an adult scavenger hunt, an antique car show and a pub night with karaoke.
Saturday will start off with a pancake and sausage breakfast and will be followed by kids activities throughout the day. There will be a skateboard competition. Also there’s a beer garden and musical entertainment.
Sunday the ball tournament will wrap up and a family fun day will be held with water slides, bouncy houses and other entertainment for kids. The night wraps up with a concert under the stars and fireworks.
MacDonald said the hardest part of organizing the event is finding volunteers. She hopes everything will turn out well though and that they’ll be able to make enough to help put on a good event for next year.
She hopes people will take advantage of all the great events.
“There’s very few fun free things in life anymore.”
