Ferguson's Corner Store & Sport Shop is going to remain open and under its current ownership for a little while longer.
Earlier this year, Bob Ferguson said he would close the store in July. But there’s been a bit of a change of plans. They’re still waiting on a deal to come through, so he’s going to continue to run the store through December.
“We’re going through another hunting season,” he said.
A previous deal had fallen through, but he remains optimistic that something may happen yet.
Ferguson is 76 years old and has run the store along with his wife for the last 37 years.
“We just built it ourselves and started,” he said.
Prior to that he had worked at Goodman’s.
He said he’s looking forward to eventually having some time off, saying he only took two weeks’ vacation in all the time he had the store.
The one thing he admits he will miss is the people who stopped in, sometimes after years of being away.
“There’s a lot of people I’ll miss,” he said.
The largest hunting store in eastern Nova Scotia, the store was also the only store that sold Boy Scout supplies in the province.
“Business here is good,” he said.
