NEW GLASGOW - Service Canada is hoping to help support workers and families across Pictou County who are facing challenges because of the Convergys call centre closure approaching in September.
One of the things Service Canada will be doing includes using a unique reference code for Covergys employees applying for Employment Insurance to make processing EI claims easier.
As well, they plan to continue holding information sessions with workers to ensure they know what types of jobs are in demand and where to look. Two sessions were already held in June.
“Having met many local Convergys employees and attended a town hall [recently], I understand the urgency. Our Government is taking action to provide direct assistance to affected employees during this difficult period,” said Central Nova Member of Parliament Peter MacKay. “Our clear objective is to assist with various programs, whether it be EI, retraining or updating skills and to make every effort to help these workers get back to work as quickly as possible, for the benefit of all.”
