Canadian Coast Guard summer student Claire Neilson guides her co-worker Reidun Garapick to shore Friday so they can take the boat out of the water to be washed.
The coast guard is stationed out of Pictou and is on call 24 hours a day, but its operational hours are noon to 8 p.m. seven days a week. This summer, the students have responded to 10 calls, mainly search and rescue missions. They patrol the waters between Wood Islands, P.E.I., Arisaig and Tatamagouche.
