EDITOR’S NOTE: If you’re looking for fun ways to keep busy over March Break, here’s a list of some activities happening here in Pictou County to get you started.

Museum of Industry activities

Once upon a Castle – At the Museum of Industry in Stellarton. Runs from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday to Saturday and Sunday 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Regular admission fees apply. Kids can build castle walls with wooden blocks, then knock them down again with a catapult. Dress as a Lord, Lady or Jester, and act out a medieval skit in costume. Escape from a dungeon maze, practice jousting skills, and quest for treasure through the Museum’s galleries. Activities are ongoing throughout the day include a dungeon maze, dress-up theatre, games and thrones, crafts and a treasure hunt.

Special Features

• Special Guest – visit Thor, a Bearded Dragon lizard in his castle.

• Armour and swords – see a special display, courtesy of Loyalist Arms and Repair

• Virtual Sandbox – Build mountains and valleys, rivers and lakes, and watch as the topography changes as you move the sand!

• LEGO extravaganza – adults and kids always enjoy creating from our piles of Lego

• Visit Hughie – tour through our exhibits, have imaginary tea with Raggedy Ann and Andy, and (kids 6 and under can) make a special stop to operate Hughie the Crane.

Small Kids Area – A quieter area for children 5 and under, with activities, colouring tables and soft blocks.

Highland Square Mall activities

March 12-14

• Newfoundland Insectarium – view insects, snakes and more at this exhibit which will be set up in the centre court of the Highland Square Mall all day.

March 12-16

• Coles Reading Nook – Visit the Coles Book Store to enjoy their reading nook each day this week.

• Crafts – each day at Michaels from 10 a.m.- noon.

Thursday, March 15

• EB Games Gaming Event – Starts at 10 a.m. Pre-registration required at EB Games.

Friday, March 16

• Northshore Events Bouncy Castle – 1-3 p.m. in centre court of the Highland Square Mall.

YMCA of Pictou County

March 12-16

March Break Camp – for ages 5-12. Drop off between 8:30 a.m. and 9 a.m. Pick up between 4 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. Members: $20/day, $85/week. Non-members: $25/day, $100/week. • Free swim – sponsored by the Town of New Glasgow from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Anyone under 8 must be accompanied by an adult.

Pictou-Antigonish Regional Library activities

All week March 13-17 (drop in during open hours)

• Treasure Hunt – for Pirates Treasure & Leprechauns Gold, Trenton Library, 1 Forge St, Trenton.
• Crafty March Break– Trenton Library, 1 Forge Street, Trenton. Make a special craft from Leprechauns and Pirates, to spring flowers and Easter bunnies.

• LEGO Table – at the Westville Library, all ages, drop-in daily.

• XBOX One – drop-in during open hours for gamers at Westville Library
• Scavenger Hunt – for Leprechaun's Gold at Stellarton Library

Tuesday, March 13

• Elephant & Piggie – puppets & crafts, 12 p.m.-7:30 p.m., Stellarton Library

• LEGO Challenge – 12 p.m.-7:30 p.m., Stellarton Library

• Maker Fair – 2 p.m.-4 p.m., River John Library. Try 3D printing, artistic button-making, knitting, woolcrafts, printing, cutting and folding cardboard toys.

• Book Folding – 11 a.m.-12 p.m., New Glasgow Library. Learn how to take an old book and fold the pages so it looks like a hedgehog. This program is for ages 8+ and registration is required. To register, please call (902) 752-8233.

• Jewelry Making – out of recycled items, 2 p.m.-3 p.m., Westville Library. Program is for ages 8+. Pre-registration is required, as space is limited. To register, call (902) 396-5022.

• Button Art – for ages 8+, 3 p.m.– 4:30 p.m., Trenton Library. Join for some fun button art with 5” x 7" canvases, glue and a little creativity. Dress for mess. Register by calling (902) 752-5181. Supplies are provided, but if you have extra buttons around feel free to bring them along

• Play d'oh Family Night – 6 p.m.-8 p.m., Pictou Library. Supplies provided

• LEGOs @ the Library – 6:15 p.m.-7:45 p.m., River John Library.

• Searching for Leprechaun's Gold – 6:30 p.m.-8 p.m., Pictou Library. Follow the treasure map and clues to find out where the Leprechaun hid his gold.

Wednesday, March 14

• Recycled Jewelry – for ages 8+, 11 a.m.-12 p.m., New Glasgow Library. Registration is required. To register, call (902) 752-8233.

• Button Art – for kids ages 8+, 2 p.m.-3 p.m., Westville Library. Create something cool with spare buttons on a 5” x 7" canvas. Dress for mess, supplies included (although if you'd like to bring in some extra buttons, please do so). Pre-registration is required as space is limited. To register call (902) 396-5022.

• Attack the Fort – 2:30 p.m.-3:30 p.m., New Glasgow Library. Build a catapult and then attack. For ages 8+, registration is required. To register, call (902) 752-8233

• Raising Readers – drop-in, ages 3-8, 11:15 a.m.-12 p.m., New Glasgow Library. Join Marion and Cristal for a puppet show, Tumblebooks and more.

• Button Making –1:30 p.m.-2:30 p.m., Pictou Library. Drop in and design a button using our button maker.

• Button Art –2 p.m.-3 p.m., Stellarton Library. We'll be creating little pieces of art on 5” x 7" canvases. Supplies, but if you have extra buttons take them in to share. For ages 8+, to register call (902) 755-1638.

• The Very Hungry Caterpillar Scavenger Hunt ­– 2:30 p.m.-4 p.m., New Glasgow Library
