Roughly 100 ATV riders revved their engines and bounced down 100 km of woodland trails around Centredale Saturday in a fundraising rally for Children’s Wish.
The ATV rally comes one week after local children and families marched through the streets of New Glasgow, many in superhero or Halloween costumes, raising more than $10,000 for Children’s Wish.
“I think it’s a great cause and a lot of people should come out and support it,” said rider Mark Goodwin from Westville.
He joined the rally with his daughter Gracie, who could comfortably perch on the back seat of the ATV as her father drove.
Goodwin said his daughter will inherit his two-person ATV when she is old enough to drive, allowing him to buy a side-by-side that can fit his whole family on board.
“It’s just a ton of fun and you get out in the woods,” said Goodwin.
Organizer Ken MacDonald said that all proceeds from this rally will stay in Pictou County and benefit local children and youth. The local rally is one of several fundraisers being held across the province.
The Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada is the largest and only all-Canadian wish granting charity that grants wishes to children from ages 3-17 diagnosed with life-threatening conditions such as cancer.
Past wishes granted include trips to Disney World or Wrestlemania. Not all children granted wishes survive their illnesses.
According to its website, Children’s Wish has granted wishes to nearly 25,000 children and their families over the 30-plus years of its existence.
