BARNEY’S RIVER

After three people ended up flying off the road due to hydroplaning, and dealing with two of those three incidents on June 25, Barney’s River Fire Chief Joe MacDonald is urging motorists on the Hwy 104 to slow down in rainy conditions.
“People are going too fast in rainy conditions, and with the water pooling on highways the way it does when there’s a lot of rain, that causes hydroplaning incidents,” said MacDonald. “So, slow down, and drive cautiously when it’s raining heavily, like it did yesterday.”

On Monday, three accidents occurred along a stretch of the Trans-Canada Highway between Pictou and Antigonish counties, with one car leaving the road around 4 p.m. in the French River area; another vehicle doing similarly near Kenzieville around 6:40 p.m. and a third also leaving the road near French River at around 8 p.m.

MacDonald noted that no major injuries were reported at the latter two of those three incidents – the two that the Barney’s River Fire Department dealt with.

MacDonald offered another piece of advice to motorists: “If you see an accident, stop and find out if everyone is okay, instead of just driving by and dialing 911 – if it’s safe to do so.”
