The events will continue throughout the week and include everything from music and dances to a genealogy day.
The first New Glasgow Black Gala Home Coming was held in 1990, according to the festival website. A long time resident had a dream of having a reunion of all past and present black residents.
As a result of the dream, a committee was struck and a call was put out for residents to come home. After the call was put out some 400 local and former residents came together for a weeklong celebration of fun and events.
This celebration now occurs every five years and is now known as the New Glasgow Black Gala Homecoming. The New Glasgow Black Gala Home Coming has occurred every five years since 1990.
