This year is different. The town is opening the competition to home cooks.
“This new category will give four of the amazing home cooks in our region the chance to enter their favorite chili recipe and for the public to taste these memorable home style chili samples," says Kim Dickson, New Glasgow's director of marketing and communications. "This new group will join the existing competitors in the other categories of firefighters, media and local celebrity chefs. If you have a prize winning home recipe, come out and enjoy the fun and enter your homemade chili into the Chill-out Sobeys Chili Cook-off Competition."
The chili cook-off competition will take place during the annual Chill-out event at the New Glasgow Farmers Market on Jan. 14 with taste testing samples available of each competitor’s creation at 11 a.m. The official winners of all categories will be announced at 12:45 p.m. As in other years there will be a People’s Choice winner for the winners in the home cooks, firefighters and media categories as well as a Judges’ Choice for Celebrity Chefs. Last year, Doug Dort was the top chili maker for the firefighters, Adam MacInnis won for the media division and Chef Jason Conway of J Conway Catering won the chef division.
Chill-out is a kickoff to winter carnival season presented by the Town of New Glasgow in partnership with the New Glasgow Farmers Market from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
