WESTVILLE ROAD – The province recently met with municipal representatives about pedestrian safety under two local overpasses.

Brian Cullen, CEO for the Municipality of Pictou County, said Monday during a Pictou County Wellness Centre Board Authority meeting that a meeting with the province took place two weeks ago and now steps are being taken to see if anything can be done to improve the area for pedestrians.

“They are open to looking at a solution but they will not compromise safety,” said Cullen, adding the province will survey lane widths and setback requirements before making any decisions.

He said if the structure will allow for sidewalk with tolerances then they could be in place but if there are no tolerances then it is a dead issue.

Cullen added no modifications can be made to the overpasses because they have a current lifespan of about 50 years.

“The first step is to see what the structure will allow,” he said.
