Westville fire chief Kenny Dunn said it took about three hours to get the fire under control. “It was kind of stubborn with the wind and snow.”
He said firefighters from three departments, including Stellarton and Alma, responded to the fire around noon. The storey-and-a-half building, which houses two apartment units, was vacant at the time of the fire.
He said the automatic mutual aid system, recently introduced by the Pictou County Firefighters Association, works great. “It’s cutting some response times down which initially helps get the fire out quicker.”
A total of nine trucks responded to the fire.
Dunn said the building was still standing on Monday, but isn’t safe to enter due to the extensive damage.
