PICTOU

A fishing supply store that had planned to set up shop on one side of Pictou’s roundabout is moving to a more visible location.

Vernon D’Eon Lobster Plugs has purchased Lot A from the Town of Pictou for the price of $100,000. As part of the deal, it will also turn over the land on Pine Tree Road that it purchased from the town after its original downtown store was destroyed by fire in early 2017.

“Location, location, location,” said Lloyd D’Eon, general manager of Vernon D’Eon’s, based out of West Pubnico. “You can’t pass either roundabout without seeing our business.”

He doesn’t know when construction will begin, but said the plans are similar to the building that was going to be constructed on Pine Tree Road. The new location will have a store with dimensions of 50x100 feet as well as a warehouse with ample room for delivery trucks and parking.

Vernon D’Eon is currently located in Lyons Brook where it moved after the fire. Lot A is located near Proudfoot’s Home Hardware location.

This is the second lot of land the town has sold near the roundabout. Somerled Properties, a real estate developer, purchased Lot B which is located in front of the business plaza that houses Sobeys, Subway and the Nova Scotia Liquor Corporation.

The town is also in negotiations for Lot C. A new Public Prosecutions office is going in land located behind Lot C.

The town also recently purchased the former visitor information centre from the province. Destination Eastern and Northumberland Shores has been given permission once again to open for the season in the building as will Logan’s Fish Market.

Subway is moving its location from the Sobeys Plaza into a separate neighbouring building that will allow it to have a drive-thru. Another business, which hasn’t been officially announced yet, is expected to be moving into the Sobeys plaza.
