Adult learners in Pictou County will receive their diplomas at the Nova Scotia Community College’s Pictou Campus on June 10, joining hundreds of others across the province.
Nearly 500 adult learners will participate in 19 graduation ceremonies over the coming weeks. The ceremonies will be hosted by learning partners of the Nova Scotia School for Adult Learning, including the NSCC, adult high schools, Université Sainte-Anne and other community-based learning organizations.
“Adult education programs give Nova Scotians the opportunity to improve their literacy skills and prepare for the workforce or more education,” said Heather Patterson, principal of the Cape Breton Victoria Adult High School in a release Tuesday. “To those considering a return to the classroom, it's never too late to learn, and we are here to help you on your journey.”
The Nova Scotia School for Adult Learning offers free learning programs to Nova Scotian adults 19 years and over who have been out of high school for more than one year. The programs are offered in English and French in most communities across the province. They include the Nova Scotia High School Graduation Diploma for Adults and General Educational Development (GED) prep courses, among others.
More than 8,047 Nova Scotians have received high school diplomas through the program since it began in 2001.
The Nova Scotia School for Adult Learning and its partner organizations offer many tuition-free adult learning programs across the province.
