The Hector Quay, located on the Pictou waterfront, is offering free admission on both Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The site includes an Interpretive Building which tells the tale of the early Hector settlers and why they came to Nova Scotia. There is also a Rope Room, a Blacksmith Shop and a Carpenter Shop on site. The public is also welcome to step aboard the Ship Hector and explore the ship both above and below decks. This is the perfect opportunity to experience first-hand what the voyage to Nova Scotia was like back in 1773.
The Homecoming Ceilidh will take place on Sunday beginning at 3:30 p.m. People are encouraged to take a chair and a sweater and enjoy a great variety of traditional Celtic music featuring piping and drumming, Jimmy Sweeney, Alycia and Robert Putnam, Robbie MacInnis, John Spyder Macdonald and more.
Highland Homecoming weekend also features a special celebration at the Pictou United Church on Sunday, at 10:30 a.m. Celebrating the 242nd Anniversary of the Arrival of the Ship Hector. "Worship with a Celtic Flair" features storytelling, highland dancing, Celtic music, bagpipes and Gaelic singing.
