Melmerby Beach, N.S.
Three kayakers were rescued after strong winds and waves prevented them from safely back to shore.
RCMP Corporal Ron Bryce said one kayak over turned and the kayakers were not able to get back to shore in the incident which happened off Melmerby Beach on Monday evening.
A call came in for help around 7:20 p.m. and RCMP, the Little Harbour Fire Department and EHS responded. A private fisherman with a boat as well as an off duty lifeguard also assisted in the rescue, Bryce said.
All three kayakers were brought back to shore and were checked out by medical personnel. The overturned kayak was not recovered.
