By land, sea or air, local cadets will be at Trenton park on Saturday.

Their mission is to hold Operation Egg Hunt from 1 to 3 p.m., a chance to work on their orienteering skills and to raise awareness about the cadet movement in Pictou County.

Members of the public are also encouraged to put teams together and take part.

“They can have cadets join up with them, or if they’re feeling adventurous they can tackle the course by themselves,” said Pamela Hansen, commanding officer with the 397 Trenton Air Cadets, which has invited other cadet groups to take part: the 219 Army Cadets in New Glasgow and the 41 Royal William Sea Cadets of Pictou will also be involved in the day’s activities.

“They’ll be navigating from a map, using a compass, looking at landmarks and they’ll be given clues and things to pick up along the way. It’s a way for the cadets to demonstrate what they know.”

Hansen said it takes about 30 minutes to go through the course and “we can run a lot of people through in two hours. We encourage the community to come out and run our orienteering course.”

While their target age is between 12 and 18, Hansen said families are also encouraged to put a team in Operation Egg Hunt.

She said the exercise will serve as a way to create community awareness for sea, army and air cadet programs and perhaps even attract new members. Anyone interested in joining a cadet program can sign up at Trenton park and obtain further information as there will also be people on hand to answer any questions that may arise.
