“(I’m) coming home and performing for my home community,” he said, adding that he’s played with Price several times through her position as organist for the Wolfville Baptist Church.
D'Entremont started piano lessons when he was six and sang around his home, but didn’t have the opportunity to perform vocally until he reached high school at North Nova Education Centre, joining the choir headed by Janice Alcorn.
The Alcorns have fueled the fire in many musicians in the county, including d'Entremont.
“She was always so into it,” the 23-year-old Merigomish-raised vocalist said about Janice. “She inspired me.”
D’Entremont grew up playing in the music festival, and started voice lessons in Grade 9 or 10, he said.
He had few options in elementary and middle school in terms of choirs, he said, and the Alcorns were very welcoming once he got to North Nova.
He said he finds performing exciting, and thrives off of it.
“I wanted to be in the spotlight.”
After attending Mount Allison University for two years and transferring to Acadia, he’s now graduated and taking his Masters in vocal performance at the University of Toronto.
He loves having the chance to come home to a warm reception from his family and peers, but it’s not something he gets to do often.
However, he has the opportunity next week.
D’Entremont and Price perform at Trinity United Church in New Glasgow at 7 p.m. on Monday, following a Sunday afternoon in Wolfville.
Admission is by donation.
