Jack Ross, fire chief for Alma, said his department received a call around 10 a.m. about the fire and when his firefighters arrived, the home was fully engulfed in flames.
Westville Fire Department was called in to assist and both departments remained on the scene for about two hours. Neither woman nor her daughter were home at the time.
Ross said the department is currently in the process of helping the family get in touch with the Canadian Red Cross for assistance. He said nothing could be saved from the fire.
