“From a local policing perspective, it’s a very devastating situation,” Const. Ken MacDonald of the New Glasgow Regional Police Service said. “Our hearts and sympathies go out to the families of the RCMP.”
Pictou County RCMP directed calls to the provincial media contact, but noted that the whole province was on standby in case their resources were needed.
Nova Scotia RCMP spokesperson Al LeBlanc confirmed to Metro Halifax earlier today that officers were en route to New Brunswick, but couldn’t say how many and from which units.
New Glasgow Mayor Barrie MacMillan also offered his sympathies to the City of Moncton.
“This shooting is an austere reminder that our law enforcement officers put their lives on the line each and every day to protect our communities,” said MacMillan. “We are wishing for a quick recovery for those injured and are thinking of the people of Moncton and their police service during this tragedy.”
