Chief Delaney Chisholm with the New Glasgow Regional Police is on the list for the seventh annual award winners, along with Susan LeFort, business and development officer for the Aerospace and Defence sectors with Innovation PEI, and Norma Lee MacLeod, producer and host of CBC Radio One’s Maritime Noon.
Foundation board of directors chair Quentin Bevan said that this year’s honourees are to be commended for their exceptional professional achievements and their contributions to their communities.
“Our 2014 award recipients, Chief Delaney Chisholm, Susan LeFort, and Norma Lee MacLeod have made substantial marks in both their chosen careers and their communities,” said Bevan. “Their dedication and accomplishments serve as an inspiration to current students.”
Chisholm began his career in 1973 as a 20-year-old recruit with the New Glasgow Regional Police Department. Since then, he has served his force in a number of different capacities, including patrol, major crime investigation supervisor, deputy chief of police operations, and currently, chief of police.
Chisholm led the merger of the New Glasgow and Trenton Police Services, and has served on a number of provincial and national committees, including chairing the executive committee of the Criminal Intelligence Service of Nova Scotia and sitting on the executive of the Nova Scotia Chiefs of Police Association.
Chisholm has been honoured with a Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal by MP Peter MacKay in recognition of his outstanding contributions and dedicated service to his community. He is also a recipient of the Federal Police Exemplary Police Service 40-year-long service medal.
“I credit my appointment as chief of police for my communities to the support and influence of past police academy alumni and the training and skills that I received from the Atlantic Police Academy,” said Chisholm. “Holland College gave me skills and knowledge that have benefited my career.”
