Elizabeth Van den Eynden, QC, was a managing partner with the MacIntosh, MacDonnell & MacDonald law firm in New Glasgow. She has been a lawyer for 25 years, specializing in employment law before her appointment was announced on Oct. 2.
She earned her BA from St. Francis Xavier University in 1984, her law degree from the University of New Brunswick in 1987, and was called to the Nova Scotia Bar in 1988. She was appointed Queen's Counsel in 2008.
She has frequently appeared before all levels of Nova Scotia courts as well as before a number of administrative tribunals, including the Nova Scotia Labour Board, the Workers' Compensation Board, and the Human Rights Commission.
Her main practice areas were labour law, employment law, civil litigation, and child protection.
Justice Van den Eynden will be presiding in Truro. She replaces the Honourable Justice Edward (Ted) Scanlan who has just been appointed to the Nova Scotia Court of Appeal and will be moving to Halifax.
The swearing-in ceremony will be held in Pictou at 10 a.m.
