Locals advance to national music festival

NEW GLASGOW – The provincial music festival was held in New Glasgow over the weekend, with winners of the junior and senior classes performing at Glasgow Square on Saturday night.

To bring the events of this Provincial Music festival to a close, the Lieutenant Governor was invited to announce the individual competitors and the choirs who had been recommended to go forward and represent Nova Scotia at this year’s National Music Festival Aug. 14 to 16 at the University of British Columbia, Kelowna Campus.

This year’s team of individual performers include: Marcel d’Entremont, Voice, from the New Glasgow Music Festival, Willem Blois, Piano, and Jaewon Choi, Woodwind, Truro Music Festival, and Ta Tan Huang, Strings, Nova Scotia Kiwanis Music Festival.

In the Choral Classes, four choirs were recommended to the National competitions. They are Annapolis Valley Honour Choir, Senior Division and Junior Division, Heather Fraser, Director; NNEC Octet, Janice Alcorn, Director; and A.G. Baillie Memorial School Choir, Jane Miller, Director.

Next year’s Provincial Music Festival will be hosted by the Bridgewater Music Festival on May 29 and 30.
