On Wednesday at approx. 12:30 p.m., the Pictou County Integrated Street Crime Enforcement Unit (PCISCEU) observed a vehicle being driven by a male with a revoked driver’s license.

When police turned to stop the driver, he fled down a dirt road where he abandoned his vehicle and ran into the woods. The 36-year-old driver was seen a few minutes later and was arrested without incident. The RCMP Police Dog handler was called to search the area and a quantity of MDPV commonly referred to as bath salts was located a short distance from the abandoned vehicle.

Police then obtained a search warrant to search the driver’s residence on Maclean Road where they seized more bath salts, several firearms and a taser.

The male was held in custody and will appear this morning in Pictou Provincial Court to face numerous charges under the Controlled Drugs and substances Act, the Criminal Code and the Motor Vehicle Act.

Charges are expected to include possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking (MDPV), flight from police, several firearm related offences, possession of a prohibited weapon (Taser) and driving while revoked and no insurance.

The investigation continues.
