NEW GLASGOW – The county's connection to royalty got a boost recently when Mary Cameron was crowned as Miss New Brunswick in Woodstock, N.B.

Mary, 19, is the daughter of New Glasgow native Paul Cameron and his wife, Margaret Anne Cameron. They live in Charlo, N.B.

Mary's grandparents are Ruth and Dick Cameron of New Glasgow and she has an aunt, uncle and cousins here in the county.

"We're pretty proud of her," Ruth said.

Mary came into the pageant as representing the town of Dalhousie, N.B. She was also Miss Bon Ami Festival 2009. Mary beat out 11 other contestants for the crown.

"I'm pretty shocked. Anyone could have won," Mary told the Woodstock Bugle-Observer following her win.

Mary is a journalism student at the University of King's College in Halifax.

She is not the only queen with ties to the county as Miss Nova Scotia International, Ashley Lochead, is from Sylvester.
