An afternoon of music is planned in Lansdowne to raise money for a local park that serves people with disabilities and seniors.
Music LORDA will be held Sunday, Aug. 19, noon to 8 p.m. with 16 local musicians and bands taking the stage to raise money for Lansdowne Outdoor Recreational Park.
“People are very good to LORDA because it is a very good cause,” said County Coun. David Parker, a member of the board of directors for LORDA. “We are helping those in the community with disabilities and seniors and people are happy to support that.”
Entertainers include Hangman, Doris Mason and Ryan Thomson, Jim and Tina Wood, Pierre and Katie Aucoin, Jesse Hart and the Harts, Pat Spalding and Allan O’Brian, Heather and Tom Brennan, Brian and Brenda Bowden as well as Ann Holten and Amelia Parker.
Tickets will also be sold on a draw for a Dan Munro painting of Lansdowne Lake. There will be a barbecue, bake table, maple syrup sales, 50/50 tickets, t-shirts and silent auction.
Parker said LORDA is in a transition stage now with some new board members recently joining and David Leese Jr. taking over as board chair.
However, there have been several bookings at the park that serves Pictou County residents and people in neighbouring counties.
The park includes 300 acres of forest that allows for fishing, tenting and has Bocce courts as well as picnic tables, gazebos and seating to enjoy a barbecue or picnic. It has 15 unserviced overnight camping sites and guest amenities include flush toilets, water and a disposal station. The park is designed to be accessible for seniors and people of any age with disabilities.
Admission to Music LORDA is $10 a person and it’s free for children under the age of 12. LORDA is located at 1480 Gairloch Road, Lansdowne, Hwy 289. More information can be found on its Facebook page, LORDApark.
