Volunteers from First Baptist Church on East River Road are readying their rakes to clean up some yards on May 12.
Cleaning teams of three to four people will visit anyone in the area on that day who needs their yard tidied, leaves raked, windows washed and other spring cleaning tasks that need doing during their Helping Hands Service Day.
“Our mission is to reach the people of Pictou County with the love of Jesus Christ, so we wanted to be able to provide a service for those who need it,” said church deacon Donna Cooper.
Helping Hands is aimed at those people who may have difficulty completing spring cleaning tasks themselves.
Cooper said the church is also signing up community volunteers, which will help them share the work and reach more addresses of those people who need help cleaning house.
As of Thursday afternoon, the church had 13 team members signed up and eight home visits already booked, a number they need to increase.
“We feel that we should be helping our fellow Pictou County people as much as we can,” said Cooper.
Helping Hands runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on May 12 and lunch will be provided for volunteers.
