Businesses owners Trudy Vince, centre, of Yours trudy and Cathy Cotter (right) of China Cupboard and Geralyn MacDonald, New Glasgow’s Director of Community Economic Development are shown reviewing the newly recreated New Glasgow Christmas coupon campaign booklet that will be accessible to shoppers both online and in print. The Town of New Glasgow is partnering with local businesses to encourage investment in local businesses during the holiday season through two online shop local campaigns.

The coupon book is easily accessible and available online at www.newglasgow.ca, through the Town of New Glasgow Facebook page, and printed copies are also available at the New Glasgow Town Office, from Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Interested businesses throughout the town are still able to add coupons to the online presentation by contacting Cheryl Young, project assistant, Community Economic Development and Marketing & Communications Departments, Town of New Glasgow at 755-8346 or by emailing [email protected].

Participating businesses to date include China Cupboard, Connect Hearing, Downtown Book Exchange, East Coast Baby, EKIM Fashion, Fashions by Lisa, George Street Yarn Shoppe, Get Stuffed Healthy, Inspirations Ladies Fashion & Bridal Boutique, Leslie’s Finery Lingerie, Lids, Picture Perfect Framing Art Gallery, Pool’n Around, the Headshoppe, and Yours trudy. Businesses are presenting their products and also offering discounts, tax-free or giveaways.

The Town will also be creating an online feature supporting local businesses through its Facebook page, which was initiated last year for the first time explains Kim Dickson, New Glasgow’s director of marketing and communications.

“This is another way to tell customers from across northern Nova Scotia and beyond about the interesting and quality retail experience they can enjoy in New Glasgow,” said Dickson. “We will launch this Facebook campaign called, “Local Treasures By New Glasgow,” in early December as a countdown to Christmas. This combined with the coupon project initiated by our Community Economic Development Department will help place local businesses at the forefront for holiday shopping.”

Jack Kyte, Executive Director of the Pictou County Chamber of Commerce says he is impressed with the Town of New Glasgow being innovative in the use of online and social media techniques to help local businesses.

The Town of New Glasgow is also offering free parking throughout the month of December in the downtown core. Any funds collected through the meters during this time will be donated to the Pictou County Help Line.
