Andrea MacIvor of New Glasgow and Abygail Morrisey of Little Harbour, both local Rotary Interact Club members, along with their friends and classmates, Renee MacKay, Linacy; Amber MacInnis, Trenton; Rachael Morrison, New Glasgow, and Brycen Jenkins, Pictou Landing, a 2016 NNEC graduate and Nutritional Services employee at Glen Haven delighted the residents and staff of Glen Haven Manor with an afternoon visit. Emma Proudfoot, New Glasgow, a Grade 10 NNEC student and a member of Interact Club also helped with the Prom on Parade, serving lemonade and cookies which added to the special occasion as the prom showcase took place.
Under the sponsorship of the New Glasgow Rotary Club, the Interact Club carries out community services activities and supports the work and values of Rotary. The Interact clubs bring together young people ages 12-18 to develop leadership skills while discovering the power of service above self.
The special youth guests visited all resident care areas at Glen Haven and had many one-on-one conversations with residents who enjoyed not only seeing the striking formal attire but also the conversations they had about the students' graduation, prom, future career and study plans.
Glen Haven's Director of Community, Engagement & Relationships Donna MacLane and CEO Lisa M. Smith, both Rotarians, arranged the visit with the Interact Club and members of the Glen Haven Recreation team Kelsey MacDonald, Chelsey Jourdrie and Dani Martin accompanied the students during their visit introducing them to the residents while Brycen also knew many residents by name. The students said they were thrilled to present the Prom on Parade and that it was an immense pleasure to meet Glen Haven Manor residents.
“It meant a great deal to our residents to be able to share in this milestone event for NNEC graduates, their families and our community,” said Smith. “Graduation time is a rite of passage for the Class of 2018 and evokes a lot of memories for our residents, while creating a cherished new one. We plan to continue and expand upon this treasured tradition next year.
