New Glasgow will be talking about living active for the next few weeks and citizens are being urged to be part of the process.
“This is very much a project for the citizens of New Glasgow,” said Veronica Deno, who was hired to oversee the project. “They should be as involved as possible so that we can address their concerns in order to improve physical activity opportunities in New Glasgow.”
A series of community input sessions will take place in New Glasgow over the next few weeks, where residents can provide input and make suggestions for the fledgling New Glasgow Active Living Strategy.
“We’re just really trying to get people out to get feedback from the community,” said Geralyn MacDonald, Director of Community Economic Development for the Town.
“By the spring, the plan will be launched but first it has to be endorsed by council.”
The Town of New Glasgow partnered with the Nova Scotia Department of Communities, Culture & Heritage through the Municipal Physical Activity Leadership Program.
“Physical activity rates in Canada are low, Nova Scotia’s are lower and Pictou County’s are much lower,” Deno said.
She added community feedback is very important.
“The purpose of the Active Living Strategy is to increase physical activity rates for all age groups and demographics in New Glasgow, so that residents can reap the mental and physical health, social, economic and environmental benefits of being physically active.”
