PICTOU – Residents will soon move in to the new Shiretown Nursing Home in Pictou and Ivey’s Terrace Nursing Home in Trenton.
“Physically they are complete,” said Brian MacLeod, president of MacLeod Group Health Services. “Furnishings are all in as well and so we are in the process of getting people’s things moved over and eventually move people over.”
The company constructed the two facilities to replace the aged Shiretown building.
“We have had public tours already and most of the municipal and provincial politicians have been through the building,” said MacLeod, adding the feedback has been positive.
Bonnie Linkletter, administrator for Shiretown Nursing Home said the new facility offers a physiotherapy room to treat patients. In Shiretown, treatment was done in rooms. The new facility also offers large common spaces, several fireplaces, a new hair salon and a contained courtyard for patients to get fresh air.
Shiretown Nursing Home is approximately 43,000 square feet and housed 89 beds. The news sites combined have 90,000 square feet and the same number of beds divided between the two sites.
Originally, patients were to be moved to the new facility this week but it has been delayed due to a Norovirus outbreak in the Shiretown Nursing Home.
MacLeod said there will be a grand opening after all clients have moved in and settle into their new surroundings. He anticipates it will be in late March or April.
