Angela Macdonald sells vintage decor and FAT paint at her new shop in New Glasgow.

This is not just an antique business, but an antique vintage home décor shop, said owner Angela Macdonald.

Macdonald has a background in insurance and legal areas and worked in those fields for a number of years but decided she wanted to do something different.

“I had just started doing just some paintings of some old pieces and some decorative kinds of things within the last year and decided to go forward with the store.”

She said when she was  growing up she always loved old things. Her grandparents had great old pieces and she liked those, finding the quality of an antique item much higher than the quality of many currently made items.

“They seem to be quite popular with people to invest in those good old pieces.”

Macdonald said the reason she chose downtown New Glasgow to set up shop is because she wanted to pick a place that was going to be in the eye of the public.

“I had a little shop in the barn of our home here in New Glasgow over the last year and the traffic there was very slow.”

When the 154 Provost Street location became available, she said she couldn’t refuse it because it was the right size.

“There’s a lot of walkers downtown and there’s lots of traffic here in this area so it’s very visible.”

She said partners that stock most of the antiques sold at the store.

They are also a retailer for a Canadian-made decorative paint called FAT paint. In the future she will be holding demonstration sessions to teach people how to use the paint.

The first class is scheduled to begin on March 12 from 2 to 4 p.m. Participants should pre-register and the cost for classes is $80 plus tax. For more information contact Macdonald at 902-752-0947 or at [email protected].
