If you are age 50 or older and have always wanted to play a musical instrument, or if you played in your ‘earlier years’ and are interested in taking it up again, this group is for you.
The instruments that will be taught include flute, oboe, bassoon, clarinet, alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, baritone saxophone, trumpet, French horn, trombone, euphonium (baritone), tuba, drums and percussion, violin, cello, piano, guitar and electric or acoustic bass.
The program is directed by Ken Henderson, a retired music teacher, and the director of the Truro Concert Band and the Pictou County Orchestra. Ken spent many years teaching in the public school system in the Truro area, and has years of experience teaching music to people of varying ages. This program is part of the Nova New Horizons Band system that operates out of the Truro and Dartmouth areas under the direction of the group founder Paul Barrett.
The Glasgow New Horizons Band program starts groups of beginners, or ‘raw recruits’, twice a year – in September and January. On Jan. 20. the ninth wave band will be formed, offering a musical opportunity for the seniors of Pictou County.
