Denise Miller, show manager with event organizer Master Promotions Ltd., expects to see homeowners and prospective homeowners along with those dreaming of buying a new RV attending the Pictou County Home Show, co-located with the Stones RV Spring Forward Sales Event.

Denise Miller, show manager with event organizer Master Promotions Ltd., expects to see homeowners and prospective homeowners along with those dreaming of buying a new RV attending the Pictou County Home Show, co-located with the Stones RV Spring Forward Sales Event.

“It’s a one-stop shop for customers,” she said.

The double showcase takes place Friday through Sunday at the Pictou County Wellness Centre where both ice surfaces were being covered earlier this week in preparation.

At the event Miller says consumers will have an opportunity to get advice, inspiration, innovation and deals as they connect with the more than 60 businesses presenting displays.

The response they got from most businesses they approached about participating in the home show she said was “It’s about time.”

Products and services related to new home construction, renovations, remodels and home improvement projects will be highlighted. In addition those attending will have a chance to look at a wide selection of the newest RV models and trends.

The benefit of a show like this Miller said is it gives companies of all sizes a level playing field to tell customers what they offer. Spring is an ideal time, she added, because after a long winter people are thinking about sprucing up their homes.

A sneak preview including the exhibitor list and some of the show features is available on the show website: www.PictouCountyHomeShow.ca/attend.

Miller said from what she’s seen at recent shows in other areas, she believes the economy is on the upswing. She has been hearing that the real estate market is also strong and when people are selling homes, they often look to renovate.

“That’s when these builders and renovators get a little more business,” she said.

Miller said they are excited to be able to host this event at the Pictou County Wellness Centre, which is a newer building than many host locations. She believes people will be amazed at the transformation of the rink into a home show and expects there will be lots of interactive displays as well as a few products for sale.

“It’s quite upbeat and positive,” she said.

From skating rink to show room

Jason Lynch, operations manager at the Pictou County Wellness Centre, won’t be getting much sleep for the next couple of days.

He and other employees at the Wellness Centre are transforming the ice surfaces to make them ready to host the Pictou County Home Show and Stones RV Spring Forward Sales Event this Friday through Sunday.

Dave Hood, general manager at the Wellness Centre, said this weekend’s transformation is actually easier than some of the changes they’ve done in the past to host concerts because they don't have to take out the glass. The main ice surface, for instance, took about two hours to cover this time.

He said this is the first time they’ve had to cover both arenas when there was ice in. They had to borrow a cover for the second ice surface from Centre 200 in Cape Breton.

“It is pretty neat to see the process and see the building go from one moment being an arena for skating to having trailers and different events taking place. It really shows what the building can do.”
