Parker told councillors Monday that Pictou County Minor Hockey is not pleased with a five per cent increase for ice rentals in the upcoming season, but the Wellness Centre board has stood by its decision to increase the fee.
He said the board is trying to reduce the deficit and at the same time bring new revenue into the building while Pictou County Minor Hockey has pledged not to increase its own registration fees since it amalgamated in 2016.
“It is still ongoing and not settled at this point,” said Parker, adding that minor hockey had told the Wellness Centre it was considering putting its ice times for tryouts in other arenas in September. However, he said, both the Stellarton and Trenton arena managers said they would not be putting their ice in any earlier than usual this year. Parker said he is unclear what Westville, Pictou and Thorburn will be doing.
“I think a good portion of it will stay because I think a lot of players want to play at the Wellness Centre,” he said.
