PICTOU – Televised council meetings could still be in the future for county council meetings.

County staff provided council with an update Monday saying that the municipality’s website is currently being updated which will allow for live-streamed council meetings.

Staff said technical experts were in to look at the council chambers and request for proposals are expected to go out soon. Council first brought up the idea of televising council meetings in 2016 and staff has done some research regarding cost.

It is also looking at electronic voting for votes cast during council meetings. Currently councillors raise their hands to vote, but the municipality does have the equipment to allow their votes to be counted electronically. If meetings become televised, it is possible the electronic voting system could be incorporated into the broadcast.

Council agreed to test out the electronic voting system during a planning session in January.
