The Pictou County Subway Selects A team were discussing in their dressing room one day after practice the excitement of Christmas.
One player left for home with the true meaning of Christmas on her mind. When she went home, she sent out an email to the team with an idea to give back. Her idea of the team buying gifts for patients who did not have much family to visit transpired into Christmas caroling and gift giving to the patients in the Aberdeen Hospital Transitional Care Unit.
The nursing staff and recreation co-ordinator were notified and arranged for an evening of carolling. The staff and patients were overwhelmed by the group of young hockey players’ generosity.
On Dec. 20, the team of 17 players visited to sing carols as well as present an abundance of gifts and necessities and treats to the patients.
The group were so well received, they had requests throughout the hospital and ended up going from floor to floor sharing the joy of Christmas.
