Winter fun comes in different forms of activities, including food, games, activities and chocolate.

Michelle Young, recreation director for the Town of Pictou, said she is pleased with the amount of co-operation that comes from local businesses and community groups hosting events in partnership with the Pictou Winter Carnival.

For example, she said, Pictou United Church is hosting its annual Valentine Chocoholic event Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. in the church hall. It includes games, silent auction and decadent desserts.

The Great Canadian Skate will also take place Sunday at the Hector Arena from 12:30 to 2 p.m. and is sponsored by the McCulloch House Museum and Genealogy Centre. Participants can wear a kilt or tartan or just come out for skate as they are. There will be prizes at this free event.

Young said the Pictou Library is hosting a wide range of events including a family no-snowman building event, scavenger hunt, games and activities related to winter as well as a family Valentine’s Day Bingo.

Young said there is a full slate of activities planned at the Caledonia Curling Club Saturday, including sleigh rides, ball hockey shootout challenge, curling try-it and learning to snowshoe.

Of course, things all need to get started with a good meal so Saturday’s activities begin with a pancake and sausage breakfast from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the New Horizons Seniors Club.
