Const. Bob Cullen said no charges will be filed against the Miramichi Timberwolves player who threw his stick after he was ejected from the game on Nov. 5 for misconduct. The stick almost hit a physically disabled teen.
Matt Cusson received a three-game suspension from the Maritime Hockey League for unbecoming conduct as a result of the incident.
An RCMP officer was at the Pictou County Wellness Centre investigating an unrelated criminal matter when the episode took place. The officer saw the player exit the ice surface and smash his hockey stick against the door, and then throw the stick upwards. The stick missed the glass and went into the crowd behind the glass, nearly striking Daniel Arsenault and another person who were both using wheelchairs.
“An investigation was conducted and the officer determined that there was no intent by the player to cause injury to anyone, that no one was targeted by the player and that no one was injured by his actions,” said Cullen.
He said the officer also spoke to the player involved, team officials and coaching staff to remind them of the dangers posed by the player’s actions.
