CARIBOU – It didn’t take long to get the fish back in the freezer and ready to be sold.
A couple of days after a fire destroyed the fish store adjacent to the North Nova Sea Foods plant in Caribou, the plant’s owner had a small trailer purchased and seafood products were again available for public consumption.
“We’ve been selling lobsters, scallops, crabs – everything,” owner Paul Logan said Saturday in an interview near the fish plant, which was not affected by the blaze. The fire started around 7 p.m. Wednesday and was noticed by workers at the nearby plant.
With the Christmas party season well underway, business was been brisk on Saturday morning, said store manager Edie Feltmate, as she held up some fish products from a small freezer in the store’s temporary new home.
By noon Saturday, 17 customers had already been through and she expected lots more on the way.
Logan said he plans to rebuild a permanent structure for the store.
No one was injured in the blaze, the cause of which has still not been determined, Logan said.
